By downloading, installing, or using the Decarbonr app, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use the app.

1. Description of Service

Decarbonr is an iOS application that helps users:

• Track carbon footprint of food products through barcode scanning
• Monitor travel-related CO₂ emissions
• Set and track personal carbon budget goals
• Access scientific research on carbon emissions
• Discover eco-friendly alternatives to high-emission products

2. Educational Purpose

Important: Decarbonr is designed for educational and awareness purposes. The app:

• Provides estimates based on scientific research and averages
• Does NOT provide professional environmental, nutritional, or dietary advice
• Should NOT be the sole basis for important lifestyle or health decisions
• May not account for all variables affecting carbon footprint

3. Accuracy and Limitations

Carbon Footprint Data

While our data is based on peer-reviewed scientific research, carbon footprint calculations are estimates. Actual emissions may vary based on:

• Production methods and farming practices
• Transportation distances and methods
• Processing, packaging, and storage
• Seasonal variations and regional differences
• Data quality and completeness in databases

Third-Party Data

The app uses data from OpenFoodFacts, a community-driven database. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of this third-party data.

4. User Responsibilities

By using the app, you agree to:

• Use the app for lawful purposes only
• Not attempt to reverse engineer or modify the app
• Not use automated systems to access the app
• Not misrepresent data or information from the app
• Understand that the app provides estimates, not absolute values
• Consult professionals for important decisions

5. Camera and Permissions

The app requests camera access to scan barcodes. You agree that:

• Camera access is optional but required for barcode scanning
• You can revoke camera permissions at any time through iOS Settings
• The app does not store, transmit, or share camera images
• You are responsible for complying with local laws regarding photography

6. Intellectual Property

The Decarbonr app, including its design, features, and content, is protected by copyright and other intellectual property laws. You may not:

• Copy, modify, or distribute the app or its content
• Create derivative works based on the app
• Remove or alter copyright notices
• Use our trademarks or branding without permission

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• Accuracy, reliability, or completeness of data
• Fitness for a particular purpose
• Non-infringement
• Uninterrupted or error-free operation

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages
• Loss of profits, data, or goodwill
• Decisions made based on app data
• Health or environmental outcomes
• Third-party content or services (e.g., OpenFoodFacts)

9. Changes to the App

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the app or any features at any time without notice or liability. We may also update emission factors and scientific data as new research becomes available.

10. Changes to Terms

We may update these Terms of Service from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.

11. Termination

You may stop using the app at any time by uninstalling it from your device. We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to the app for any reason, including violation of these terms.

12. Governing Law

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved in the appropriate courts.

13. Severability

If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions will remain in full force and effect.
