Learn Climate Science While You Track Your Footprint
Decarbonr’s built-in education library: explainers, calculators, quizzes and action plans next to your own numbers
📚 A number needs context
A daily CO₂e figure is only useful if you know what it means. Is 8 kg a lot? Why does a beef burger count for so much more than a bean chilli? What does “Scope 3” mean on a company report? Most carbon trackers give you the number and leave the rest to a search engine. Decarbonr puts the explanations in the same app as your log.
What is in the library
The Tools & Education tab is organised into five sections:
🌍 Education
CO₂e fundamentals and climate science — what a carbon dioxide equivalent is, and why different gases are counted together.
🧮 Plan & Calculate
A carbon budget calculator and what-if scenarios, so you can test a change before you make it.
🧠 Learn & Test
Daily facts, personalised tips, quizzes and myth busting for the claims that circulate about climate and consumption.
✅ Act & Improve
Action plans and world map comparisons that put your footprint next to countries around the world.
🔍 Deep Dives
Success stories, Scope 1–3 carbon accounting and policy analysis, for when you want to go beyond personal choices.
Learning next to your own data
The library sits alongside the tracker rather than replacing it. You log meals and journeys — manually, or with the optional AI photo scanner and barcode scanner — across food, 9 transport modes and 12+ lifestyle categories. The dashboard shows your daily CO₂e against a Paris-aligned goal of 2 tonnes a year (about 5.48 kg a day), with trend charts and country comparisons.
When a number surprises you, the explanation is one tab away. And when you are curious about a change, the what-if scenarios let you see its effect on your budget before committing to it.
Built to become a habit
Climate knowledge sticks better in small, regular doses than in a single long read. The daily facts and quizzes are short by design, and you earn eco-points and achievements as you go, alongside goals and streaks for your tracking.
It also works where you are: most of the app, including the education library, works offline, and Decarbonr is available in 60+ languages.
Grounded in published science, private by design
Decarbonr’s emission factors draw on peer-reviewed and institutional sources, including Poore & Nemecek (2018), the IPCC, the European Environment Agency and Our World in Data. You can see the sources and the factor tables on our research page.
There is no account to create and no ads. Your logs are stored on your iPhone, not synced to a server, so learning about your footprint does not mean handing it to anyone else.
Who it is for
- The curious beginner who wants to understand terms like CO₂e and carbon budget before deciding what to change.
- The committed tracker who already logs meals and trips and wants to know why some entries weigh so much more than others.
- The sceptic who has heard conflicting claims and wants the myth-busting section to separate the large levers from the small ones.
- The professional who meets Scope 1–3 accounting or climate policy at work and wants a plain-language grounding.
Whichever describes you, the aim is the same: to make your footprint something you understand rather than just a number you are told.
Track it. Understand it. Reduce it.
Start with a free trial. The education library is included in Premium; AI scanning is an optional add-on. Requires iOS 17.6 or later.
